Women in Logistics & Transport – CILT

WiLAT groups are formed within CILT Territorial Organisations and Branches.  In areas where CILT is not yet established WiLAT activities will be guided by the regional coordinator. Please contact your regional coordinator for more information on establishing a local group.
Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) was launched in June 2013 to promote our industry to female members and to encourage and support their career development. By 2015 WiLAT had over 1600 members in 16 countries and we’re still growing.   Nigeria was the first to establish WiLAT in 2010 while the global launch was in Colombo in 2013.

We’re enjoying great success in cultivating a spirit of togetherness to thrive in a male dominated industry (Aisha Ali Ibrahim, WiLAT Global Convenor at the WiLAT Africa Regional Conference March 2014)

Membership

WiLAT membership is fully dependent on membership of Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). Female members of CILT automatically become members of their local group of WiLAT.  Male members of CILT or anyone interested in WiLAT but not yet a member of CILT may become a Friend of WiLAT. For further information please contact the chairperson of your local group or your regional coordinator.

Structure

Our Global Convenor, who sits on the CILT International Management Committee, is responsible for the growth and development of WiLAT internationally and for coordinating our annual global conference. Regional coordinators promote the interests of women in their region and encourage membership. Country groups work with and on behalf of women at local level, organizing events, providing local support and networking opportunities, and representing women within the local CILT council.

Global Convenor (Aisha Ali Ibrahim since 2013)

Since the inception of WiLAT, Aisha has taken the lead to advocate the establishment of local WiLAT chapters around the globe.   Her vision of this supporting platform had encouraged women to lean in for success.

Global Advisor (Dr. Dorothy Chan since 2015)

With the rapid growth of WiLAT, our Global Advisor works in the concerted effort with our Global Convenor to provide strategic growth and focuses to WiLAT globally.
