GAYANI DE ALWIS IS THE FUTURE OF WOMEN IN LOGISTICS AND TRANSPORT

Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) is happy to announce that Gayani de Alwis, Immediate Past Chairperson, CILT Sri Lanka, and WiLAT Global Vice Chairperson, South Asia will assume the role of WiLAT Global Chairperson with effect from 1 July 2020 for a term of 3 years.

Announcing her appointment, CILT International President, Dato Radzak Malek congratulated Gayani on her leading role in promoting diversity and empowering female leadership. He will be working closely with Gayani and will continue to support WiLAT which is now active in 22 countries.


Dato Radzak Malek also expressed sincere gratitude to Dr. Dorothy Chan, Past Chairperson and WiLAT Global Advisor for setting an example on how to pursue a common mission supported by a dedicated group of volunteers.


Dr. Dorothy Chan  thanked all WiLAT country chairpersons, and her core team in the WiLAT Steering Committee for their unwavering support. “The past year has been a particularly challenging year for WiLAT with the COVID-19 outbreak but the crisis has also provided the opportunity for WiLAT to be closer together through regular online chat sessions and bulletins. We do look forward to meeting face-to-face again soon.”


Speaking of her new appointment Gayani said:

I am delighted to be the Global Chairperson of WiLAT. During my tenure I aim to position WiLAT internationally in all sectors, and will focus on building global partnerships. Together we must craft and execute innovative strategies to promote the value of diversity in our industry. We must make this is a decade of change, and as we move forward we must ensure no-one is left behind.

Aisha Ali Ibrahim, first Global Chairperson of WiLAT offered her congratulations to Gayani saying “Gayani has contributed immensely to the growth of WiLAT and her leadership will take WiLAT to greater heights. I congratulate her and wish her a very successful tenure.”


Mr. Keith Newton, International Secretary General joined in with his appreciation to the work of WiLAT in promoting CILT and women leadership in multiple roles and wished Gayani a successful term as WiLAT Global Chairperson.

WiLATis the International Women’s Forum within the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. Since its formation in 2013 WiLAT has gone from strength to strength, and is now present in 22 countries with over 3000 members. WiLAT’s mission is to promote the status of women in the supply chain, logistics and transport industry, to bring together those who aid the career development of women, and to provide a support network for women in the sector.
