As part of our Wellness Month initiative, the WiLAT Sri Lanka team, together with our mobility partners from PickMe, visited the Indira Cancer Trust (Suwa Arana) on 29th October 2025.
During this visit, participants had the opportunity to take part in an insightful breast cancer awareness session and learn about the remarkable work carried out by the Indira Cancer Trust to support cancer patients and their families. The Trust provides a wide range of services, including patient care and accommodation, counseling, recreational and learning facilities, transport reimbursement, medical investigation support, and even in-house wig making for patients — all of which touched and inspired our team deeply.
It was truly eye-opening to learn that in Sri Lanka, three lives are lost to breast cancer every day, while around fifteen new cases are diagnosed daily. These figures highlight the urgent importance of early detection and awareness in saving lives.
As part of our visit, donations collected from WiLAT Sri Lanka members and participants — including children’s diapers, cheese, yoghurt, and cash contributions towards wigs, nutritional support, children’s birthday celebrations, and patient transport — were handed over to the Indira Cancer Trust management. These were then distributed among the patients residing at their facility.
We are honoured and proud to stand together for this meaningful cause, promoting care, compassion, and awareness throughout WiLAT Wellness Month.
The team was also inspired by the dedication of many young volunteers who support the Trust’s daily operations and by the collective efforts of numerous organizations and individuals who contribute as sponsors and well-wishers.

I enjoyed reading about the wellness-month and cancer awareness session hosted by Women in Logistics & Transport (WiLAT) in Sri Lanka it clearly shows how community engagement and thoughtful outreach matter. That’s why when the phrase take my online advanced mathematics class help pops up in my mind, I’m reminded by this story that meaningful progress comes from being present, engaging with the challenge and building your skills rather than seeking shortcuts.
