As part of the International Women's Day 2026 initiatives, the Women in Logistics and Transport Sri Lanka (WiLAT SL) team participated in a highly productive and insightful industry visit to the Colombo West International Terminal on 05 March 2026.
The visit provided participants with a valuable opportunity to observe state-of-the-art automated crane operations, advanced yard management systems, and integrated terminal operations in action. The scale of technological advancement and operational efficiency demonstrated how CWIT is playing a significant role in strengthening the modernization and future readiness of Sri Lanka’s port and logistics sector.
CWIT’s strong commitment to innovation, digitalization, and operational excellence was clearly evident, with modern infrastructure and smart operational systems contributing to improved productivity, safety, and efficiency across terminal activities. A particularly encouraging aspect of the visit was witnessing the increasing participation of women in operational roles within the terminal environment. This progress reflects a meaningful step toward fostering a more diverse, inclusive, and progressive logistics and maritime industry in Sri Lanka.
WiLAT Sri Lanka extends its sincere appreciation to the CWIT team for their warm hospitality, openness in sharing knowledge, and for facilitating this valuable industry exposure. A special note of thanks to Dhashma Karunaratne (WiLAT Member) for coordinating and supporting the arrangements, enabling WiLAT members to gain first-hand insight into world-class terminal operations.
